A Cremina lever should lift easily and come down against steady, even resistance. When it drags, drops without effort or pushes water past the piston, the wear is in the group: hardened piston cups, a scored sleeve or a flattened gasket. Those parts wear together, so we look at the piston, the sleeve and the gasket seat as one set instead of swapping only the seal that leaks.

Hercules is on EBMUD water, soft to moderate, so heavy scale is rarely the first suspect on a lever group here. The seals and the linkage still age with every pull. We collect the machine from the Birds, the Gemstones, the Trees and Flowers or the newer homes near the bay, rebuild the group on our bench and send a written quote first. We are an independent shop, not an authorized Olympia service.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Hardened piston cups that let water bypass. Piston cups stiffen with heat and age, and water starts to slip past them. The shot runs thin, or the lever sinks with almost no resistance. We fit new cups sized for the group and test them against the sleeve before the machine is closed up.
Scored group sleeve that chews new seals. A scratch or ridge in the sleeve wall cuts fresh piston cups quickly. We inspect the bore under good light, and if it is marked we deal with the sleeve before any new seals go in. Seals fitted over a damaged bore buy only a short reprieve.
Lever linkage with play at the pivots. Worn pins and bushings let the lever wobble and waste part of the force you put into it. We check the linkage and the return spring, replace worn pins and make sure the lever travels cleanly through its full stroke.
