Some Cremina problems start with how the boiler was filled. Fill it past the top of the range on the sight glass and the steam wand spits water; let it run too low and the element can overheat until the thermal protection cuts the power. Part of any fault is the machine and part is the routine around it, and on the bench we separate the two before we quote anything.

El Sobrante homes run from old ranchettes and houses climbing the hills above San Pablo Dam Road to later subdivisions, apartments and condos. We collect from all of them and carry the machine cool and upright down steps and steep driveways. EBMUD water is soft to moderate, so scale builds slowly, but a boiler that has run for years still gets a look inside. The repair is ours alone, since we are not an authorized Olympia service.

What we repair on the bench.

Wet steam and water spitting from the wand. An overfilled boiler, a scaled wand tip or a pressurestat set too low all give wet, weak steam. We check the level against the sight glass, clear the tip and read boiler pressure on a gauge before touching the valve.
Shots that run hotter after several in a row. The Cremina group heats up with each shot, so after a few in a row the coffee brews hotter. That is how the design behaves, not a fault. If the machine runs hot from the very first shot, we check the pressurestat setting and how the element switches.
Thermal protection tripped after the boiler ran low. When the boiler runs dry, the element overheats and the thermal protection opens, and the machine goes dead. We check the element for damage, reset or renew the protection and run a full heat-up at the correct water level.
