Olympia Express machines are built to stay in service. The Cremina is a compact manual lever machine with a 49 mm group, and generations of it are still working decades after they left Switzerland. The Maximatic uses an electric pump and heat exchanger, so it looks like a close relative but has a different water and pressure circuit. I diagnose each one for the machine it is.

On a Cremina, lever feel tells me where to start. Hardened piston cups can drag or leak, but a worn or scored group sleeve can ruin a new seal quickly. I inspect the piston, sleeve, gasket seat, linkage, and return spring together. The boiler side gets its own checks: heating element, pressurestat, wiring, thermal protection, safety valve, steam valve, and sight glass.

The Maximatic adds a pump and three-way valve. Noise, weak pressure, or water left at the group can come from the pump, a restriction, or a valve that no longer seals. I test pressure under load and follow the heat-exchanger path before ordering a part. A guessed pump is expensive and may leave the real restriction untouched.

Deposit, timing, and parts

The Olympia Express deposit is $250. It includes pickup, bench diagnosis, and return delivery and is not credited toward repair. Extra bench time is $150 per hour. You receive the findings and a written quote before repair work continues.

Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3-4 weeks. Some Olympia Express parts come from Switzerland and can add time. I confirm availability and the likely lead time before you approve the work. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered.

Repair parts and labor are covered for 6 months; consumables are covered for 90 days. We service Olympia Express independently, with no manufacturer relationship. Coffee-equipment pickup covers our 56 Bay Area cities plus San Francisco, excluding Marin County.
