How long should we flush a Maximatic before pulling a shot?

Run water through the group until the hissing and spitting settle into a steady stream, then lock in the portafilter. How long that takes depends on how long the machine sat idle. If the flush never settles, have us collect it.

Do you pick up in Crockett too?

Yes. Crockett and Port Costa are in our pickup area along with the Bayo Vista and Oleum streets in Rodeo. We collect the machine cool and upright and return it to the same address.

Olympia Express in Rodeo

Olympia Express in Rodeo kitchens.

The Maximatic brews through a heat exchanger, a tube that runs through the steam boiler and heats fresh water on its way to the group. That lets you steam and brew without waiting, but water resting in the exchanger can overheat while the machine idles. A short flush before the shot brings it back down. When no amount of flushing helps, the next suspects are boiler pressure set too high or a pressurestat that switches late.

Many homes in Bayo Vista and around Oleum are small to mid-size houses and townhomes built between 1940 and 1969, and we collect from them as well as from Crockett and Port Costa. Rodeo and Crockett are on EBMUD water; Port Costa gets treated water from the Contra Costa Water District. We note which one your machine has used, open it on the bench and quote in writing. We are not an authorized Olympia service; the repair is independent.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Maximatic shots that come out scalding after an idle spell. Water sitting in the heat exchanger overheats between shots. A flush fixes it for one drink, but if every shot tastes scorched, we read boiler pressure on a gauge, test the pressurestat and adjust or replace it.
Heat exchanger narrowed by old deposits. A partly blocked exchanger slows the flow and makes brew temperature hard to predict. We descale the boiler and the exchanger, clear the fittings and time the flow at the group before the machine goes back.
Steam wand that sputters from a blocked tip. Dried milk inside the tip narrows its holes, and steam comes out in bursts instead of a steady jet. We soak and clear the tip, renew the wand seals and set the steam valve so it opens smoothly.
