ILVE in Vallejo

ILVE in Vallejo kitchens.

Vallejo sits on San Pablo Bay by the Mare Island Strait, and its houses run from the Victorian and Craftsman homes downtown to the 1980s and 1990s streets of Glen Cove and the planned community of Hiddenbrooke. A brass-trim Nostalgie in one of the old downtown houses went in long after the kitchen was built. The gas line and the outlet behind it were added or extended at some point to serve a modern range, so we check both before we open the range up.

Our technician for Vallejo is based in Benicia, the next town east along the strait. A visit opens with the $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair when you go ahead, and you get a written quote before any work starts. ILVE parts are imported and some take a while to arrive, so we narrow the fault to one tested part before anything is ordered.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Burner that clicks but never lights. The fault sits in one of three places: the electrode beside the burner, the igniter switch behind that knob, or the spark module that feeds them all. We test each one, and we check the outlet as well, because a loose or ungrounded outlet in an older house can upset the module. Then we order the single part that failed.
  • Gas oven that lights, then goes out. The oven catches while you hold the knob in and dies a few seconds after you let go. That is the flame-failure system: a thermocouple that has to sense the flame and an FFD valve that keeps the gas open while it does. We test the thermocouple, the FFD valve and the oven thermostat as a set, since all three look alike from the front.
  • Oven door that no longer seals. ILVE oven doors are heavy, and the hinges and gasket wear with years of use. Once the seal breaks, preheat drags on and the door front runs hot to the touch. We replace the hinges and the gasket together and check that the door closes flat against the frame.

FAQ

ILVE in Vallejo questions, answered.

  • Our ILVE went into an old downtown Vallejo house during a remodel. Could the house be part of the problem?
Sometimes. The spark module wants a sound, grounded outlet, and the oven needs a steady gas supply at the valve. We test the outlet and run the leak detector over the gas connection before we blame a part. If the house wiring is at fault, we tell you it is a job for an electrician.
  • Do you cover Hiddenbrooke and Glen Cove as well as downtown?
Yes. All four Vallejo ZIP codes, 94589 through 94592, are in our area, so Hiddenbrooke, Glen Cove, South Vallejo, Mare Island and the older blocks downtown are all covered.
  • The burners work, but the oven takes forever to heat. Is it a part or the door?
It can be either. A worn gasket or a sagging hinge lets heat escape, and a drifting thermostat keeps the oven short of the number on the dial. On a dual-fuel model the bake element is another suspect. We time a preheat with a thermometer inside the oven, then check the seal, so you know which one it is before anything is ordered.
