ILVE in East Palo Alto

ILVE in East Palo Alto kitchens.

East Palo Alto is mostly dense rental housing and working-family homes, so ILVE calls here run fewer than in the neighboring cities across the freeway. The units I do see come out of the single-family pockets and the newer infill construction near Bay Road and University Circle, usually a range a homeowner brought in during a kitchen remodel rather than a builder-installed unit.

Because these are lower-volume calls for us in this city, the range is often older and past the point where a prior owner has done any maintenance on it. Ignition components and the oven flame-failure device are the most common fixes, and I see more cooling fan and door hinge wear here than in cities where the range gets replaced or refreshed sooner.

The Dumbarton Bridge lands just a few minutes from East Palo Alto, and our Peninsula-based technician in San Mateo County covers this stretch directly, so it isn't a special trip out from San Ramon.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Burner igniter switch and spark module. A burner clicking with no flame, or every burner clicking together off one knob. On older units I also check the burner cap and orifice for buildup before assuming it's electrical, since a clogged orifice can mimic an igniter fault.
  • Oven flame-failure device and thermocouple. Oven lights, then shuts off a few seconds after you release the knob. I test the thermocouple output directly rather than swap it on a guess, since on an older range the FFD itself is just as likely to be the actual failure.
  • Cooling fan and door hinge wear. On ranges past ten years old, the oven cooling fan starts running loud or not at all, and door hinges sag enough that the gasket stops sealing. Both are mechanical wear items I check on every older-unit call in this city, since they get missed until the oven starts losing heat.

FAQ

ILVE in East Palo Alto questions, answered.

  • Do you actually service East Palo Alto, or is it out of your normal area?
It's inside our regular Peninsula coverage. The technician assigned to this side of the bay is based in San Mateo County, so East Palo Alto gets the same response as the rest of the Mid and South Peninsula.
  • My ILVE range is old and parts are imported. Is it even worth fixing?
Depends what's actually wrong. Ignition parts, thermocouples, and hinges are straightforward and worth fixing on almost any age of range. If a selector switch or control board on an older model needs a long-lead import part, I'll tell you honestly whether that still makes sense before you commit to it.
  • How does the $99 diagnostic work?
I check the range, confirm the actual failed part, and write up a quote before touching anything. If you book the repair, the $99 is credited toward the repair, and gas work is licensed under CSLB #1136642.
