ILVE in Albany

ILVE in Albany kitchens.

Albany is a small, dense city, and most of the 1920s to 1940s bungalows along the Marin Avenue grid keep their original compact kitchen footprint. Where we find ILVE ranges is in the larger homes up on Albany Hill and in the handful of bungalows that pushed out the back for a kitchen addition, brass-trim Nostalgie and Majestic models mostly, usually sitting next to a Sub-Zero fridge or a Wolf hood.

The ignition and oven-flame complaints start showing up heavily once a range passes year eight, and that's most of what we get called out for. ZIP 94706. Drive time from San Ramon is about 40 to 45 minutes via 580 or 24 through the Caldecott to 80, and we route Albany with our Berkeley and Richmond Inner East Bay days.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Burner igniter switch and spark module faults. One burner clicking without lighting, or all of them clicking at once when you turn a single knob, means the spark module or one igniter switch has failed. We narrow it down and replace only the part at fault.
  • Thermocouple and flame-failure device kill the flame. Oven lights, then shuts off a few seconds after you release the knob. We test the flame-failure device and thermocouple separately to confirm which one is the cause before ordering the imported part.
  • Selector switch wear and thermostat calibration drift. The selector switch wears out on these units, and a thermostat that drifts off setpoint is a separate, unrelated fault. We diagnose which one it actually is so we're only ordering a part once.
  • Door hinge wear and dual-fuel element failure. Dual-fuel models can lose the electric oven element, its control, or the cooling fan, and the door hinge and gasket wear on their own timeline. Both show up around year eight, and imported parts may carry a lead time.

FAQ

ILVE in Albany questions, answered.

  • How quickly can you reach Albany for an ILVE service call?
About 40 to 45 minutes from San Ramon via 580 or 24 through the Caldecott to 80. Albany rides along with our Berkeley and Richmond Inner East Bay days, so a same-week window usually works, and sometimes sooner.
  • ILVE parts ship from Italy. What does that do to my repair timeline?
Many ILVE parts ship out of Veneto, so a wait and a higher price tag come with the territory on some jobs. That's why we're thorough on the first visit, checking the flame-failure device, thermocouple, selector switch, and igniter, so we order the right part the first time instead of guessing twice.
  • What does an ILVE ignition or oven call typically cost in Albany?
Diagnostic runs $75 and comes off the total once you approve the repair. Spark module and igniter-switch jobs run $290 to $520. Fixing the flame-failure device or thermocouple falls between $310 and $560. Selector switches and other imported parts vary with lead time. Gas work falls under CSLB #1136642, and you get a written quote before we start.
