- Cooktop burner that lights and then starves out. When an ILVE burner catches, burns weakly, and dies within a minute, the flame failure thermocouple is usually not getting hot enough to hold the safety valve open. On Hayward's older hillside homes I also check gas supply pressure first, because a marginal regulator on an aging line produces the same symptom and a new thermocouple will not fix plumbing.
- Gas oven refusing to light at all. ILVE gas ovens light through a burner assembly at the cavity floor, and a failed oven thermocouple or a lazy safety valve leaves you with gas smell and no flame, or nothing at all. This is not a part to guess at. I test the thermocouple output in millivolts under flame and verify the valve holds before quoting, so the written quote covers the actual fault.
- Sagging oven door on Nostalgie models. The counterweighted hinges on Nostalgie doors wear at the pivot, the door drops a few millimeters, and the top seal opens up. Heat pours past the gasket, the brass trim above the door discolors, and bakes run long. Hinges are replaced in pairs, and I align the door to the cavity afterward rather than just bolting parts in.
