ILVE in Clayton
ILVE in Clayton kitchens.
Clayton sits at the foot of Mount Diablo next to Concord and grew in stages: the 1970s expansions, Dana Hills and Clayton Wood in 1987, the Oakhurst Country Club land in the 1990s and Peacock Creek from 1996, where most homes are large. ILVE builds ranges from 30 to 60 inches, and a wide Majestic or Professional Plus in one of these kitchens means more burners, more igniter switches and more to test.
Summers in Clayton are hot and dry, and a kitchen that is already warm gives an oven less room to shed heat. On a dual-fuel ILVE that puts more load on the cooling fan that protects the controls and the selector switch, so we check the fan on every oven call here. Clayton is covered by our technician, who is based in Benicia. You pay $99 for the diagnostic, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and you approve a written quote before any work begins.
Common repairs we handle.
- Cooling fan failing in summer heat. The cooling fan pulls hot air out from behind the control panel while the oven runs. When its bearings wear or the motor stalls, heat builds around the selector switch and the wiring, and on a hot afternoon it builds faster. We test the fan and replace it before that heat damages anything else.
- One burner on a wide range will not light. A 48- or 60-inch range has an igniter switch for every knob, so a single dead burner points to that burner's switch or electrode rather than the shared module. We check the spark at that burner, test its switch, and replace the one part that failed.
- Electric oven browning only on top. On a dual-fuel model the oven can lose its bake element while the broil element keeps working, so food browns on top and stays pale underneath. We measure each element and the thermostat or control that feeds it, then replace the part that tested bad.

FAQ
ILVE in Clayton questions, answered.
-
Does a hot Clayton summer shorten the life of an ILVE's oven controls?
Heat is hard on any oven's controls, and a warm kitchen leaves less margin. The cooling fan is what protects them. Keep the vents around the control panel clear, and if the fan sounds rough or quits, book a visit before the selector and wiring take the heat. A fan costs far less to replace than a control. -
Which parts of Clayton do you serve?
All of 94517: Dana Hills, Clayton Wood, Peacock Creek, Cardinet Glen, the Oakhurst area and the older streets from the 1970s expansion. -
A new 48-inch range costs a lot. When does fixing our ILVE stop making sense?
Rarely on the parts that usually fail. Switches, thermocouples, FFD valves, elements, fans and selectors are all replaceable, and the cabinet and burners outlast them. The caution is imported parts, which carry a lead time and a price a domestic brand would not. We put both in the written quote so you decide with the numbers in hand.
