Menumaster in San Jose

Menumaster commercial service.

San Jose runs more Menumaster units per square mile than any other city we cover. Taquerias along Alum Rock, delis around San Pedro Square, and the c-stores feeding SJSU students all keep an RCS or DEC series box behind the counter, and those machines cycle hundreds of times a shift. When one dies at 11:30 on a Tuesday, the lunch line backs up fast. That is why San Jose calls get priority scheduling from us.

I service the full ACP commercial line here, from the 1000 watt RCS10 units in small convenience stores to the heavier DEC models in downtown kitchens that reheat all day. Most of what I see in San Jose is honest wear from volume: door interlocks that have been slammed forty thousand times, magnetrons cooked by clogged air filters, keypads worn through on the two most-used buttons.

We come out from San Ramon with a stocked van, run a $75 diagnostic that we waive if you approve the repair, and put the quote in writing before touching anything. Repairs carry a 1 year warranty. For a restaurant, a dead reheating station is lost revenue every hour, so we treat these as working-week calls, not someday calls.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Magnetron failure on RCS10 series units. The classic San Jose call. A high-volume taqueria runs the unit back to back through lunch, the grease-clogged air filter chokes cooling, and the magnetron overheats until it stops producing heat. The turntable-free cavity still lights up and hums but food comes out cold. I replace the magnetron, check the high voltage diode and capacitor while I am in there, and clean the airflow path so the new one lasts.
  • Door interlock switch wear from heavy cycling. Menumaster doors are built for commercial abuse, but the interlock switches behind them are still mechanical parts. After a few years of a busy deli counter, the primary or monitor switch goes intermittent, the unit blows its ceramic fuse, or it simply refuses to start. I replace the switch set as a group, not one at a time, because when one is worn the others are right behind it.
  • Keypad and control board faults on DEC models. On DEC series units in downtown kitchens, the membrane keypad wears through on the preset buttons staff hit hundreds of times a day. Symptoms are ghost entries, dead buttons, or a unit that beeps but will not program. Sometimes it is the keypad alone, sometimes moisture has reached the control board. The diagnostic tells us which, and I quote each option in writing so you can decide between board replacement and a new unit.

FAQ

Menumaster in San Jose questions, answered.

  • How fast can you get to San Jose from San Ramon?
We are based in San Ramon, and San Jose is about 40 minutes down I-680 outside rush hour. Because we route South Bay days through Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, and Los Gatos as one loop, a San Jose call usually lands within the same week, often within a day or two. If your unit is the only working reheat station in the kitchen, say so when you call and we will slot you into the next South Bay run.
  • Is it worth repairing a commercial microwave, or should I just replace it?
Depends on the failure and the age. A magnetron or interlock repair on a Menumaster that is under five years old is almost always worth it, since a new commercial unit costs far more than the fix. A control board on a ten year old machine is a closer call. The $75 diagnostic gives you a written quote, and it is waived if you go ahead with the repair, so you are deciding with real numbers instead of guessing.
  • Do you work on the exact Menumaster model we have?
Almost certainly. Menumaster is ACP's commercial line, the same factory that builds Amana Commercial, and the RCS, DEC, and CFT families share parts and layouts with their Amana siblings. Tell us the model number from the plate inside the door when you call and I will confirm parts availability before we drive out. Andrew Kuznetsov, EPA 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642, handles the work personally.
