Common issues we see
What breaks. What we fix.
Menumaster is ACP’s commercial microwave line, the same shop that builds Amana Commercial. You find these behind the counter at restaurants, delis, and c-stores running all day on Commercial CFT, DEC, and RCS units in the 1000 to 1200 watt range. They are built to cycle hundreds of times a shift, and when one quits it stops the line, so most of our calls are same-week.
The magnetron is the usual heavy hitter. Once a high-use unit has a few years on it, the magnetron weakens and you get a microwave that runs but no longer heats. Before we condemn it, we meter the high-voltage diode and the capacitor, because a shorted diode or a tired cap throws the same no-heat symptom and costs a fraction of a magnetron. We test the full HV circuit in sequence so you pay for the part that actually failed, not a guess.
Door interlock switches are the second call. A commercial microwave has stacked interlocks that confirm the door is shut before the magnetron fires. After thousands of slams the switch contacts wear or the plastic actuator cracks, and the unit goes dead or trips the line fuse the instant you close the door. We replace the switch set and check the door alignment so the new switches are not killed the same way. A blown line fuse usually points back to a failed interlock or a shorted HV component, so we trace the cause, not just swap the fuse.
The rest is wear. Membrane keypads stop registering presses after the overlay takes years of greasy fingers, and the stirrer motor that spreads the microwave field seizes and gives you cold spots in the food. Both are stocked-part jobs and most are one visit.
Almost always worth repairing
A commercial Menumaster is worth fixing in nearly every case. A new restaurant-grade microwave runs several hundred dollars and means downtime while you source and swap it, where a magnetron, diode, switch set, or stirrer motor is a single trip and the box is back on the counter the same day. The cabinet and transformer outlast the consumable parts by years, so you are repairing around a frame that has plenty of life left.
The only time we steer you toward replacement is when more than one major component has gone at once on an already old unit, and we will show you that math before you spend a dollar. The $75 diagnostic covers the full electrical workup and is waived when you approve the repair. You get a written quote before we touch it. Gas and any refrigerant work is licensed under CSLB #1136642.
