Scope of work

What we do. What we fix.

What we do

A commercial microwave is not a scaled-up home unit. It runs 1000 to 2100 watts, cycles hundreds of times a shift, and is built to be opened and repaired. We service the heavy-duty units behind the line in fast-food and quick-service kitchens: Amana Commercial (the ACP units in McDonald’s, Subway, and Dairy Queen), Menumaster, Panasonic Pro with the inverter supply, and the Sharp heavy-duty R-series.

These fail in known places, and most of the failures are the high-voltage side, which is exactly where a general handyman should not be. A microwave’s high-voltage capacitor holds a lethal charge after the unit is unplugged. We discharge it, test it, and replace the parts safely.

Foodservice runs on its own clock. We keep an after-hours line at (925) 999-4095. A dead microwave on the line backs up every ticket.

Common failures we see

Runs but does not heat. The classic. Magnetron, high-voltage diode, or high-voltage capacitor, in that order of probability. We test the HV components rather than throw a magnetron at it, because a $25 diode often gets blamed on a $180 magnetron.

Dead, no display, no fan. Usually the line fuse, which blows for a reason, a shorted HV component or a stuck door switch, so we find the cause before we replace the fuse. Replacing only the fuse puts the unit back on the bench in a week.

Door and interlock switches. Commercial doors take thousands of slams a day. The interlock and monitor switches wear and either kill the unit or, worse, let it run unsafely. This is a safety repair and we replace the full switch set, not the one that clicked.

Keypad or touch panel dead. The membrane keypad wears through at the most-used buttons. On Amana and Menumaster it is a replaceable membrane. On Panasonic inverter units we also see the inverter HV board, which is the brand-specific part.

Stirrer or turntable not moving. Cold and hot spots in the food. Stirrer motor or antenna drive. A quick mechanical fix that operators often misread as a magnetron problem.

Repair or replace

A commercial Amana, Menumaster, Panasonic, or Sharp is built heavy and is almost always worth repairing against a $700 to $2000 replacement. A magnetron, a switch set, or a keypad is a fraction of that. We give you a straight repair-or-replace read, quote before we start, and waive the $75 diagnostic when you book the repair.
