AC Repair in Los Altos Hills

AC Repair in Los Altos Hills.

Los Altos Hills runs two ZIPs, 94022 and 94024, and the cooling work splits the way the housing does. The estates remodeled in the 90s and early 2000s carry gas furnaces with split AC that is now deep into its failure years: tired blower motors, weak capacitors, and condensers losing charge through corroded coils. The newer rebuilds went the other way, with multi-zone heat pumps and all-electric mechanical rooms.

The hills shape the job. Equipment sits on slopes, line sets run long, and condensate has to be carried downhill or pumped. Access can start at the bottom of a long driveway, so we plan it with you before the visit. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and you get the written quote before we start.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Long line set running short on charge. A long line set needs refrigerant beyond the factory charge, and a system set up without it runs starved. We calculate the charge for the actual line length, check superheat and subcooling, and weigh it in.
  • Condensate pump failing on a sloped lot. Where the drain cannot fall by gravity, a small pump lifts the water out. When the pump fails, the safety switch stops the cooling or water backs up. We test the pump and its float, clean the line, and replace the pump if it has quit.
  • One head of a multi-zone heat pump not cooling. On a multi-zone system one head can fail while the others run: a stuck expansion valve in the outdoor unit, a failed sensor, or a clogged filter. We read the codes and check each zone's temperatures before touching the charge.
  • Blower motor slowing on a 1990s estate furnace. The furnace blower carries the cooling too. A motor with worn bearings or a weak capacitor slows down, the coil runs too cold and the airflow drops. We check the motor amps and the capacitor and look at the wheel for buildup.

FAQ

AC Repair in Los Altos Hills questions, answered.

  • Our condenser sits down a slope from the house. Does that cause problems?
It can. Height differences and long line sets affect oil return and charge, and the system has to be set up for them. We check the line length, the charge and how the system handles the rise before calling it a failed part.
  • Do you work on the all-electric mechanical rooms in newer Los Altos Hills rebuilds?
Yes. Multi-zone heat pumps and their controls are part of the work. We read the fault history, test the sensors and the boards, and handle the sealed-system side under ADRIUM's EPA 608 Universal certification.
  • How do you handle access on a long hillside driveway?
We ask about it when you book: gate codes, where to park, and where the equipment sits. That way the visit starts at the equipment instead of with a search for it.

Pricing HVAC repair starts with a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the approved repair, which makes the service call $0 with a completed repair. Considering a new HVAC system? The in-home estimate visit is free.
