AC Repair in Albany

AC Repair in Albany.

Central air never caught on in Albany. The city is mostly 1920s to 1940s stucco and wood bungalows on small lots along the Marin Avenue grid, built with wall furnaces and no ducts. When cooling gets added here, a ductless heat pump is the practical answer, because there is no duct run to use. The same goes for the ADUs and basement units going in behind the main house.

Ductless systems fail in their own ways. The indoor head's drain line clogs and drips down the wall, the outdoor inverter board throws a code, or a flare fitting at the head seeps refrigerant. Our technician reads the fault code first, then checks the charge with a manifold and a scale. The visit starts with a $99 diagnostic that is credited toward the repair, and nothing gets fixed until you approve a written quote.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Ductless head dripping water down the wall. A clogged condensate line or a pump that has stopped lifting water sends it out the front of the head. We clear the line, test the pump if the head has one, and check the slope of the drain run where we can reach it.
  • Inverter outdoor unit flashing an error code. Mini-split outdoor units report faults through blink codes or a display. We read the code, check the sensors and wiring it points to, and test the inverter board before ordering one, since the board is the costly guess.
  • Slow leak at a flare fitting. The flare connections at the indoor head are a weak point on ductless systems. We pressure-test with nitrogen, remake or replace the fitting, pull a vacuum, and weigh the charge back in.
  • Outdoor unit squeezed against the fence line. Small lots leave little room beside a bungalow, so the outdoor unit can end up tight to a fence or wall with leaves packed against the coil. We clean it, check head pressure, and tell you how much clearance it needs to run properly.

FAQ

AC Repair in Albany questions, answered.

  • Can the ADU behind our house get its own cooling?
Yes. A single-zone ductless heat pump is a good fit for an ADU or basement unit, because it heats and cools without ductwork. If one is already installed and not keeping up, we check the charge, the filters in the head, and the outdoor coil first.
  • Our bungalow still has its wall furnace. Can we add cooling without ducts?
A ductless heat pump handles both jobs. It cools the rooms that get warm and can take over the heating, so the wall furnace can be retired later. We look at the electrical panel and a spot for the outdoor unit before quoting.
  • Do you work on ductless systems up on Albany Hill?
Yes, all of 94706, from UC Village to Albany Hill. Refrigerant work falls under ADRIUM's EPA 608 Universal certification, and our contractor license is CSLB #1136642.

Pricing HVAC repair starts with a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the approved repair, which makes the service call $0 with a completed repair. Considering a new HVAC system? The in-home estimate visit is free.
