AC Repair in Hillsborough

AC Repair in Hillsborough.

Hillsborough is one ZIP, 94010, with no commercial district and some of the oldest estate stock on the Peninsula. The 1920s and 30s Tudors and Spanish revivals were built around boilers and radiators, and plenty still run that way with no ductwork for cooling. The mid-century houses and the remodel-era rebuilds are different. They carry ducted systems, usually two or more per house.

Fog off the coast range keeps heating in charge most of the year, and cooling matters for a few warm stretches. When one of the two systems in a mid-century home stops cooling, we test its thermostat, controls and condenser separately from the other. You pay $99 for the diagnostic, credited toward the repair, and see a written quote before any work.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Adding cooling to a radiator-heated Tudor. A house heated by a boiler has no ducts to carry cold air. Ductless heads, or a small ducted air handler in the attic, can cool the bedrooms without disturbing the radiators. We look at the house before suggesting either.
  • One of two systems down in a mid-century house. With two systems, the warm half of the house points to one thermostat, one air handler and one condenser. We start there, check the controls and the capacitor, and leave the working system alone unless you ask.
  • Condenser that sits idle most of the year. Equipment used only in a few warm stretches can sit for months. Capacitors dry out, contactors corrode, and debris collects in the cabinet. We clean it out, test the electrical parts, and run it under load to confirm the fix.
  • Heat pump that heats fine but will not cool. The reversing valve decides the direction. If it sticks or its solenoid fails, the system keeps heating when the thermostat asks for cooling. We test the solenoid and the valve before quoting a sealed-system repair.

FAQ

AC Repair in Hillsborough questions, answered.

  • Our Tudor in North Hillsborough has radiators. Can we add AC without ducts?
Yes. Ductless heads in the rooms that get warm do the job without touching the boiler or the radiators. We look at the walls, the attic and a quiet spot for the outdoor unit before quoting.
  • Our AC only runs a few weeks a year. Why did it fail?
Equipment that sits idle still ages. Capacitors lose capacity, contactor points corrode, and a slow leak can drain the charge over a winter. We test each of those and show you which one it was.
  • Is a heat pump worth it in Hillsborough's climate?
Often, yes. The heating season is long and mild and the cooling season is short, which suits a heat pump well. If your house has ducts, one can replace the furnace and the condenser together. ADRIUM is EPA 608 Universal certified for the refrigerant work.

Pricing HVAC repair starts with a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the approved repair, which makes the service call $0 with a completed repair. Considering a new HVAC system? The in-home estimate visit is free.
