Built-in KitchenAid sealed system rebuild in Danville
Problem: This built-in KitchenAid side-by-side in Danville wasn’t cooling. The temperature just wouldn’t come down.
Diagnostics: On this built-in, the compressor and the control box sit in a compartment on top of the fridge. The evaporator hides behind the freezer’s back panel. To reach it, we emptied the freezer, and the shelves, bins and panels ended up on the kitchen floor.
Solution: We rebuilt the sealed system, including the evaporator, the heat exchanger, an access valve and the filter drier. We replaced the defrost parts too: the defrost heater, the defrost high-limit thermostat and the temperature sensor. We flushed the condenser and the heat loop. With digital gauges hooked up, we pulled a vacuum on the system and charged it with new refrigerant. We also fixed a door hinge.
Result: The KitchenAid has a rebuilt sealed system, new defrost parts and a fresh charge of refrigerant. If yours was recharged once and starts warming up again, call before the food goes warm. At that point it usually needs a sealed-system repair, not more refrigerant.
