Sub-Zero 642/O condenser fan replacement in Moraga
Problem: A customer in Moraga called about their built-in Sub-Zero side-by-side. It was warming up, and they said the inside had climbed to about 53°F. They hadn’t heard any strange noise, and they wanted someone out fast.
Diagnostics: Our technician found it wasn’t holding temperature on either side, freezer or fresh food. The condenser fan motor wasn’t running. This Sub-Zero has two compressors, one for each side, in a machine compartment on top. They share that one condenser fan. It pulls air across the condenser so both systems can get rid of their heat. When it stops, both sides warm up together, and a stopped fan is quiet. That fit what the owner told us.
Solution: The owner approved the repair, and we came back with the part. We replaced the condenser fan assembly. Then we checked that the new fan ran and moved air, and tested how the fridge was cooling.
Result: The Sub-Zero has a new condenser fan. A warm Sub-Zero with no strange noise can still be a fan problem, so don’t wait it out. With no airflow over the condenser, the compressors run hot, and a compressor is a much bigger repair than a fan.
