Common issues we see
What breaks. What we fix.
KitchenAid is the upscale side of the Whirlpool group, and most of the parts platform is shared with Whirlpool, Maytag, and Amana underneath the trim. That matters because the diagnostic playbook carries across all four brands. Same compressor lineage, same dishwasher pumps, same control-board families.
Built-in French-door fridges (KRFC, KBFN) run the same linear compressor lineage that took LG sideways for a few years. KitchenAid units made between 2017 and 2020 saw the same compressor failures, and the symptom is identical. Compressor runs, won’t pump, both compartments warm up over 24 hours. We confirm with a clamp-on amp draw on the compressor and a discharge-line temperature read before we condemn the part. If the unit qualifies for the platform-wide settlement program, we tell you up front.
KDFE and KDTM dishwashers fail at the recirc-pump-motor assembly. The unit runs, makes the right sounds, but spray-arm pressure is dead. Pump replacement is one visit, two hours including the float-switch and inlet-valve check. We do not chase intermittent codes without testing the harness at the pump connector.
KFGC commercial-style ranges (the 36-inch and 48-inch dual-fuel units) have a convection-fan thermistor that mis-reads above 425 degrees. Oven runs hot, food burns at preset temp, owner blames the oven entirely. The thermistor is a 20-dollar part and a 30-minute job.
KOSE wall ovens fail at the lower bake element about year six. No glow from the bottom of the cavity, oven cycles cold, broiler still works. Element replacement is straightforward if we have the model number when we book.
Counter-depth side-by-side fridges fail at the icemaker and the door-in-door hinge linkage. Both are stocked parts and both close in one visit.

FAQ
KitchenAid questions, answered.
-
My KitchenAid built-in fridge isn't cooling but the compressor runs. What is it?
Likely the linear compressor failure that hit 2017 to 2020 production. Same lineage as the LG settlement units. We confirm with clamp-on amp draw on the compressor and a discharge-line temperature read. If your unit qualifies for the platform settlement, we tell you up front. -
My KDFE dishwasher has no spray pressure. What's broken?
Recirc-pump-motor assembly. Pump runs, makes the right sound, no pressure. Replacement is two hours single-visit. We also test the float switch and the inlet valve while the unit is open. -
My KFGC range runs hot above 425. Is the oven shot?
No. The convection-fan thermistor mis-reads at high heat. Twenty-dollar part, 30-minute job. We replace and verify with a calibrated thermocouple. -
My KOSE wall oven doesn't heat. What is it?
Lower bake element fails around year six. No glow from the bottom, oven cycles cold, broiler still works. Element replacement is straightforward with the model number ahead of the appointment.
