KitchenAid gas cooktop burner fix in Danville
Problem: A customer in Danville found us through a Google search and sent a short request: the middle burner on their KitchenAid gas cooktop kept shutting off by itself.
Diagnostics: The middle burner on this cooktop has a sensor that has to sit in the flame. When the sensor doesn’t see flame, an electronic solenoid shuts off the gas to that burner. It’s a safety feature: no flame, no gas.
Our technician found the middle burner assembled upside down. With the parts flipped, the flame burned the wrong way and never touched the sensor. So the cooktop kept treating a lit burner as one that had gone out, and the solenoid kept cutting the gas.
Solution: We reassembled the burner the right way up and tested it. The cooktop worked properly, and no parts were needed.
Result: A burner that keeps going out isn’t always a bad part. This time it was the way the burner was put together. If you smell gas, don’t touch the knobs or any switch. Leave the house and call 911 and PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 from a safe distance, then call us once it’s made safe. Burner caps and heads come off for cleaning, and it’s easy to put one back the wrong way. With the cooktop off and cool, make sure each piece sits flat in its place, the way your owner’s manual shows. If there’s no gas smell and a burner still won’t stay lit, turn it off and have it checked. We repair KitchenAid cooktops and ranges in Danville and across the Tri-Valley.
