Frigidaire refrigerator not dispensing water or making ice in San Ramon
Problem: A customer in San Ramon called about their Frigidaire side-by-side. About two days earlier it had stopped dispensing water at the door, and the ice maker had stopped making ice at the same time. They asked for a same-day visit.
Diagnostics: When water and ice quit together, the first place to look is the part they share. On this fridge both are fed by the same water inlet valve at the back. A frozen line in the door would only stop the water, and a bad ice maker would only stop the ice. Both stopping at once points at the supply side.
The valve opens when it gets power from the main control board. So the question our technician needed answered was simple: is the valve getting power when the fridge calls for water? It wasn’t. The valve was getting no power from the main control board, and the board itself was faulty.
Solution: We recommended replacing the main control board. Swapping the inlet valve wouldn’t have helped, because the valve wasn’t being told to open.
Result: The homeowner got a clear answer and a recommendation. This fridge was built in 2011. If your dispenser and ice maker stop on the same day, check that the water supply valve behind the fridge is open. If it is, the fault is usually the inlet valve or whatever powers it, and that takes a meter to sort out. We repair Frigidaire refrigerators in San Ramon and across the East Bay.
