What we do

Range hood repair comes down to four failures: a blower that grinds or quits, a speed control that drops to one setting or none, lights that die, and a touch board that goes dark from grease. We service wall-mount, island, and under-cabinet hoods, plus pro inserts and liners. We are Manufacturer-Authorized by Z-Line and file Z-Line warranty paperwork directly. We carry the common hood blower motors, run capacitors, speed boards, and halogen and LED lamps on the truck. This page is the hood-specific version of our broader cooking appliance repair work.

Workflow is the same as the rest of our cooking work. Find the failure with a meter, not by parts-swap. A hood fan that will not start is a tired run capacitor or a seized bearing far more often than a dead motor, so we test the cap and spin the wheel by hand before anyone orders a blower assembly. The wrong starting point costs the customer money.

Gas appliance work is licensed (CSLB #1136642). Most hood work is electrical and ducting, and we bring the meter, the spare lamps, and the common Zephyr and Z-Line boards so single-visit closeout is the norm.

Common issues. Typical repair.

Hood fan dead on every speed. Run capacitor or speed board, not the motor in most cases. We meter the cap, check for line voltage at the board output, and only condemn the blower if it is open or the bearings are seized. Z-Line and Zephyr boards we carry.

Blower runs loud, rattles, or hums. Dry or failing motor bearings, or a grease-loaded blower wheel thrown out of balance. We pull the wheel, clean or replace, and re-seat. A balanced wheel on good bearings runs quiet again without a full motor swap.

Stuck on one speed. The speed control or the touch board has lost its lower or higher taps. We bench-test the board and replace only the failed stage.

Touch board gone dark. Z-Line and GE hoods both fail at the touch board from grease ingress at the seam. We clean, re-seal, and replace the board only if the touch sensors test dead on the bench.

Lights out. Halogen pucks burn out and take the socket with them. LED hoods usually drop the driver, not the strip. We carry both and confirm which before we order anything.

Hood pulls weak, kitchen stays smoky. Almost always grease-clogged baffle or mesh filters, a backdraft damper stuck shut, or a crushed or disconnected duct run. We clean or replace the filters, free the damper, and check the duct path before touching the motor.
