Thor Kitchen wine cooler running too cold in Danville
Problem: This Thor Kitchen wine cooler has two zones behind a pair of glass doors, and each zone has its own control panel. The owner in Danville called because it wasn’t holding the temperature it was set to. It ran noticeably colder than the setting. That’s not an emergency, but a wine cooler is supposed to hold the temperature you picked, and this one didn’t.
Diagnostics: The control board in a cooler like this can’t feel the cabinet temperature. It reads it from a thermistor, a small sensor whose resistance changes as it warms or cools, and it switches the cooling on and off from that reading. If the sensor drifts and tells the board the cabinet is warmer than it really is, the board keeps cooling past the set point. That matches what the owner described. A drifting sensor usually gives itself away when you put a thermometer in the cabinet and compare it with what the panel thinks. On this cooler the diagnosis came down to the thermistor in the left zone.
Solution: The owner approved the estimate and we replaced the left zone thermistor. It was the only part on the job.
Result: At the end of the visit both panels were lit, reading 55 and 53. If a wine cooler runs colder or warmer than its setting while the compressor and fan sound normal, the temperature sensor is one of the first things worth checking. We repair wine coolers in Danville and across the East Bay.
