JennAir gas rangetop burner valve replacement in Danville
Problem: This Danville kitchen is built around a 48-inch JennAir gas rangetop, six burners and a griddle set into the counter. The owners reported gas leaking from the burners, and PG&E got there first. Their service tag noted low gas readings at the rangetop and that they’d closed the appliance valve to stop the leak. That made the house safe. It also meant no cooktop until the leak was fixed.
Diagnostics: Our technician confirmed the model from the rating plate, JGCP548WP01, and worked through the burner valves behind the control panel. On this rangetop every burner has its own valve on a shared gas manifold, and each knob turns its valve stem directly. The leak was at the valve for the right rear burner, so that was the part to replace.
Solution: The valve was ordered for this exact model. On the repair visit the control panel came up off the front of the rangetop, which opens up the whole row of valves on the manifold. The right rear valve came out and the new one went in. Before closing anything up, we leak-tested the new valve and its connections with a gas detector.
Result: The leaking valve has been replaced, and the rangetop went back together after the leak check. One failed valve doesn’t mean a built-in rangetop has to come out of the counter.
