Breezaire wine cellar compressor replacement in Pleasanton
Problem: The owner called us about a two-zone Breezaire wine fridge that came with the house, so they didn’t know the model. Both zones were running, but no cold air was coming out, and they asked for the earliest visit we had.
Diagnostics: On site it turned out to be a Breezaire split system. The evaporator unit that blows air into the room sits above the wine racks. The condensing unit, model WKS4000 COND, sits on its own shelf outside the wine room, and the compressor lives in there. The rating plate lists R-12 or R-409A, and the original Danfoss compressor was an R-12 model.
Our technician checked the compressor. One of the contacts at the compressor terminals had burned, and the resistance across the pins didn’t check out. The winding inside looked burned out.
Solution: The fix was either a new compressor or a whole new system. The owner thought about replacing the whole unit and went with the compressor. Because the original was built for R-12, which has been out of production for decades, this was a retrofit and not a straight swap. The new compressor is rated for R-134a and R-513A. We came back on September 5 and installed it.
Result: The compressor is replaced and the cooling is working again. If a cellar cooling unit runs but the air coming out isn’t cold, call for service instead of waiting for it to catch up. On an older Breezaire built for R-12, a compressor retrofit can be a much smaller job than replacing the whole system. We repair wine cellar cooling systems in Pleasanton and across the Tri-Valley.
