East Palo Alto sits right along the Ravenswood corridor, and the apartment and condo development that's gone in near University Avenue over the past several years has brought Miele dishwashers and columns into kitchens where that brand wasn't common a decade ago.

Further into the older neighborhoods, the single-family homes get remodeled kitchens the same way they do across the rest of the Peninsula, and a good share of my calls here are from homeowners who bought a house with a Miele unit already installed and never got a manual or a service history with it.

G Series Dishwasher Inlet Valve Failure. The inlet valve is what I replace most on G Series dishwashers in the newer East Palo Alto condo and apartment kitchens, usually because it's stuck partly open or fully closed. A unit that won't fill, or one that keeps filling past where it should and trips the flood safety pan, both point back to this same part.
KF Column Defrost Drain Clog. In the older homes further into town where a KF column went in during a remodel, the defrost drain clogs and sends water backing up behind the evaporator until it freezes overnight and thaws out as a leak somewhere that doesn't look connected to the fridge at all. I clear the drain and check the heater element so it doesn't happen again in a month.
MasterCool Column Boxed Into Tight New-Construction Cabinetry. Some of the newer development kitchens near Ravenswood built the MasterCool column into a run of cabinetry tighter than the vent clearance calls for, which starves the condenser of airflow and runs the compressor hot. I check the gap and the fan before I ever consider the sealed system, because a cramped enclosure will burn out a second compressor just as fast as the first.
