Hoshizaki in Sunnyvale
Hoshizaki commercial service.
Sunnyvale keeps a lot of Hoshizaki iron running. The restaurants around Murphy Avenue and the cafes feeding the tech campuses lean on KM-660MAH and KM-901 cubers through lunch rush, and when one of those drops output the kitchen feels it the same day. We also see the residential side of the brand here: undercounter ice makers going into kitchen remodels off El Camino, and compact units squeezed into the ADUs that keep going up behind older Sunnyvale ranch homes.
The water is the story in this city. Sunnyvale serves a blend of Hetch Hetchy supply and local groundwater, and the groundwater side runs hard. Scale grows on the KM's stainless evaporator plate faster than the Hoshizaki manual assumes, so harvest cycles stretch out and cubes come off thin. My rule is simple: if the machine is producing 20 percent below its rated daily ice, I check for scale before I blame a single component.
ADRIUM Service Solutions is my company. I am Andrew Kuznetsov, based in San Ramon, EPA Section 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642. The $75 diagnostic is waived when you approve the repair, every quote is written, and we run 7 days a week. Repairs carry a 1-year warranty, and new installs carry 10-year parts and 10-year labor.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Scale on the evaporator plate causing long harvest and shutdown. The KM series releases ice by running warm water and hot gas over the plate. Scale insulates that plate, so the slab hangs on, the harvest timer runs long, and after repeated failed harvests the board locks the machine out. I pull the panels, run a proper nickel-safe descale, and verify the harvest completes inside its normal window before I leave. On Sunnyvale's groundwater blend this is the single most common call I get for the brand.
- Fouled float switch stopping the freeze cycle. Hoshizaki uses a float switch in the reservoir to tell the board the water level. Mineral film and slime coat the float, it sticks or reads wrong, and the machine either refuses to enter freeze or short-cycles. The fix is cleaning or replacing the switch assembly, then flushing the reservoir. It is a cheap part, and I test it under real fill conditions rather than just swapping it and hoping.
- Clogged inlet water valve screen starving the machine. The little mesh screen inside the water inlet valve catches sediment, and in a city with mixed groundwater it plugs quietly over a year or two. Symptoms are thin or cloudy cubes and a fill that takes forever. I clean or replace the valve, check inlet pressure, and if the site has no filtration I will tell you plainly which cartridge filter is worth installing ahead of the machine.

FAQ
Hoshizaki in Sunnyvale questions, answered.
-
How fast can you get to Sunnyvale from San Ramon?
I run I-680 south to CA-237 and I am in Sunnyvale in about 45 minutes outside commute hours. I route South Bay work together, so a Sunnyvale call often shares a day with stops in Mountain View, Cupertino, Los Altos, or San Jose. If your ice machine is down during a service week in that cluster, same-day is realistic. -
Do you work on both commercial KM cubers and home undercounter Hoshizaki units?
Yes. Most of my Sunnyvale volume is commercial KM machines in restaurants and office cafes, but I service the residential and undercounter line too, including units installed in remodeled kitchens and ADU kitchenettes. Same diagnostic, same written quote, same 1-year repair warranty. -
How often should a Hoshizaki be descaled on Sunnyvale water?
The manual's once-a-year schedule assumes softer water than parts of Sunnyvale actually get. On the groundwater-heavy blend I recommend descaling and cleaning every 6 months for a machine running daily. If you are on good inline filtration you can stretch that, and I will tell you honestly which interval fits your site after I see the plate.
