Condenser coil corrosion from salt air. Coastside condenser fins pit and corrode faster than they would inland, and once enough surface area is gone, heat rejection drops and the compressor trips on high head pressure even with a clean coil. I clean what can be cleaned, check fin condition against the coil's remaining life, and I'm honest with harbor-front kitchens about when a coil is closer to replacement than repair.
Cabinet contactor and relay corrosion. Salt fog gets inside the electrical cabinet on machines running near Pillar Point Harbor, and contactors and relays pit and stick until the machine won't start or won't stop cleanly. I clean or replace the affected components and check the cabinet seal, since a leaky cabinet just invites the same failure again next season.
Door gasket and seal breakdown. Salt air hardens and cracks a Hoshizaki's door and cabinet gaskets sooner than the manual assumes, and once a seal fails, warm air gets in, frost builds on the evaporator, and the machine runs longer for less ice. I replace the gasket and check the cabinet seams while I'm there, because a Coastside machine is fighting the environment as much as the workload.
