We have a technician based in San Mateo County who runs the coastal side regularly, so Pacifica is not an outlier stop. I don't quote a fixed arrival hour over the phone, but it's a local Peninsula call, not a special trip from San Ramon.

Pacifica is a different service pattern than anywhere else on my Peninsula route. It's a coastal town along Highway 1, with seafood restaurants and a fish market near the pier running flake ice for display cases alongside the usual bar cubers, plus a handful of breweries and taco spots with standard undercounter units. The flaker work is specific to Pacifica on this stretch of the coast.

Salt air is the real story here. Ocean exposure corrodes condenser fins and copper lines faster than anywhere inland, and I see fin damage on Pacifica machines at an age where a San Ramon or Danville unit would still look new. Door gaskets and hinge fasteners degrade sooner too, since the rubber and hardware take the same salt exposure the coils do.

Condenser fin corrosion from salt air. Fins on a coastal unit pit and lose heat transfer years earlier than an inland machine would. The result is climbing head pressure and a compressor working harder than it should on a machine that looks fine from the outside. Once the fins are pitted enough, cleaning stops helping and it's a coil replacement, not a cleaning.
Flaker auger and gearbox wear on display machines. The seafood display cases near the pier run flakers hard, all day, to keep fish presentable. That constant load wears the auger and gearbox faster than a bar cuber ever sees. When production drops or the motor starts laboring, I check gearbox oil and auger clearance before assuming it's electrical.
Door gasket and hinge fastener corrosion. Salt air breaks down gasket rubber and corrodes screws and hinges on reach-ins faster here than anywhere else I service. A leaking gasket lets warm air in, the cabinet works harder to hold temp, and eventually the compressor runs long enough to trip a high-temp alarm. I check gaskets and hardware on every Pacifica visit, even when that's not why I was called.
