What we close on the truck.
- Condenser coil packed with kitchen grease and dust. A Willow Glen or Japantown kitchen running a Horizon unit through full lunch and dinner service builds grease film on the condenser coil faster than most accounts I service. Once the coil is fouled it can't reject heat properly, so head pressure and amp draw climb every cycle, and the run capacitor usually fails first since it's the weakest electrical part in that circuit, though a compressor left under that strain long enough will follow it.
- Fill valve or drain path scaling up. Hospital break room units running continuously across three shifts build scale in the water inlet steadily, and rather than shutting down the machine throws a low production error. I've had staff assume the unit was just working through demand for a week before the fault got flagged.
- Auger and gearbox worn from high-cycle duty. Restaurant units running near flat out through San Jose's lunch and dinner rushes wear the auger flight and gearbox down faster than lighter duty accounts. The machine keeps filling and cycling, but ice output drops off, and by the time it's caught the gear train usually has enough slack that a rebuild is the real fix.
