Castro Street downtown has one of the denser restaurant strips I work in the South Bay, and a good number of those kitchens run Horizon Elite or Horizon 700 machines to keep pace with the lunch crowd out of the tech campuses nearby. Those same campuses run Symphony Plus dispensers in their break rooms, sometimes a dozen units across one property.

Housing here is tight, and a lot of the older ranch homes near Rengstorff and Whisman have had a garage or backyard structure converted into a rental unit. Some of those conversions include a small commercial-style ice machine as part of the kitchenette, and those get serviced under the same call as a restaurant unit.

What we close on the truck.

Condenser coil choked from restaurant row grease and dust. A Castro Street kitchen running a Horizon unit through a full lunch and dinner service builds up a grease film on the condenser coil faster than most accounts I see. Once that coil is fouled it can't shed heat, so head pressure and amp draw climb a little more with every cycle. The compressor and the run capacitor both take that strain, but the capacitor usually fails first because it's the weaker part electrically.
Fill valve or drain path narrowing. Tech campus break room units running long hours across three shifts pick up mineral scale in the water inlet steadily, and rather than stopping the machine outright, that scale shows up as a low production error. I get calls where the unit has been throwing that code for a week because everyone assumed it was just working through a busy stretch.
Auger and gearbox wear on high-cycle units. Units that get run near constantly in a busy Castro Street kitchen wear out the auger flight and gearbox faster than a lighter duty account. The machine still fills water and still cycles, but it's only making a trickle of ice, and by the time someone notices, the gear train usually has enough play that a rebuild is the only fix.
