When it backs up, water spills over the pan and pools on the floor, or freezes onto the coil. We clear the line, clean the pan and check the slope all the way out.
Reach-in gasket torn and the compressor rarely resting. A torn or flattened gasket lets warm air in around the door, so the compressor runs long, the power bill climbs and frost builds inside. We replace the gasket, check that the door closes on its own and look at the hinges, which can sag on older cabinets.
Contactor chattering or welded shut. The contactor switches the compressor and condenser fan on and off. Pitted contacts can chatter, weld closed or fail to pull in. A welded contactor runs the compressor nonstop, and a failed one leaves it off. We test it, replace it and look at why it wore, since a short-cycling control wears contacts sooner.
