Sub-Zero in Alameda
Sub-Zero in Alameda kitchens.
Alameda kitchens hold on to their Sub-Zeros longer than almost anywhere else I work. The island's housing stock skews old, and a lot of the Victorians and Craftsman homes off Grand Street and in the Gold Coast still run 550 and 600 series units that went in during a nineties remodel. Those cabinets were built around the box, so owners want the unit fixed, not swapped. That is exactly the work we do.
ADRIUM Service Solutions is run by Andrew Kuznetsov out of San Ramon. I am EPA Section 608 Universal certified, which matters for Sub-Zero because the older 600 and 700 series fail at the sealed system more than anything else, and recovering and recharging refrigerant legally requires that card. CSLB #1136642, written quotes before any repair, and the $75 diagnostic is waived when you go ahead with the work.
The marine air on the island adds one wrinkle you do not see inland. Hinge hardware and door heater circuits corrode faster within a few blocks of the shoreline, so I check both on every Alameda call even when the complaint is temperature.
What the work looks like
A built-in sealed-system leak repair.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Evaporator leak on 550 and 601R units. The classic Alameda failure. The fresh food side drifts up to 45 or 50 degrees over a couple of weeks while the freezer holds. On the 550 and 601R the aluminum evaporator pits and leaks refrigerant slowly. I pressure test to confirm, then replace the evaporator and recharge. This is a real repair, not a patch, and it carries our one year repair warranty.
- Corroded hinge cartridges and door sag. Panel-ready Sub-Zero doors are heavy, and salt air eats the hinge cartridges on units in homes near the beach and the lagoons. A sagging door breaks the gasket seal at the top corner, the unit runs constantly, and frost shows up inside. New cartridges and a door adjustment usually solve it in one visit.
- Clogged condenser causing warm temps. Older Alameda houses with pets and original floor registers load the condenser coil with dust fast. High head pressure follows, the compressor cycles on its overload, and both compartments creep warm. I clean the coil, check the condenser fan motor amperage, and verify temperatures before I leave.

FAQ
Sub-Zero in Alameda questions, answered.
-
How long does it take you to reach Alameda from San Ramon?
About 35 to 40 minutes in normal traffic, taking 580 through San Leandro and Oakland and crossing at the Park Street or High Street bridge. I route Alameda calls together with Oakland and San Leandro stops, so if I am already on that side of the estuary the same day, the window tightens up. We run 7 days a week. -
My 600 series is over 20 years old. Is it still worth repairing?
Usually yes, and I will tell you in writing either way. Sub-Zero built these to be rebuilt, parts are still available for most 500 and 600 series units, and a sealed system repair costs a fraction of a new built-in plus cabinet modification. If the quote does not make sense against replacement, I say so at the diagnostic. -
Do you charge for the diagnostic if I approve the repair?
No. The $75 diagnostic fee is waived when you move forward with the repair. You get a written quote first, and the repair itself is covered by a one year warranty on parts and labor.
