- Clogged Defrost Drain on KF Bottom-Freezer Columns. The KF column's defrost drain clogs the same way in Hayward as anywhere, ice or debris blocking the tube, defrost water backing up and freezing into a sheet under the drawers, then thawing and leaking out somewhere that doesn't look connected to the fridge at all. I trace the drain, clear the blockage, and check the defrost heater and timer before I close it back up.

I check the code first and order the specific part instead of guessing at what's wrong.
- MasterCool Column Airflow Restriction and Compressor Overload. In the Hayward Hills custom homes, the MasterCool column sometimes gets boxed into cabinetry tighter than the vent kit Miele specs, and the condenser can't shed heat properly. The compressor runs long, overheats, and trips the overload protector or starts cycling more than it should. I check the venting first, because a new compressor in the same boxed-in cabinet just fails again.
