Those houses were built tight and narrow in the 1950s, and when a homeowner puts in a Miele column or dishwasher, the cabinetry gets custom-built around it, so a bad control board or a stuck drain pump isn't something you want to guess at twice.

The hillside streets above Serramonte and around Top of the Hill see a mix of original owners and newer buyers who gutted the kitchen after they moved in, and I run into both an aging KF column that's been running fine for fifteen years and a brand-new G Series dishwasher installed last spring on the same block.

KF Column Defrost Drain Clog. The KF bottom-freezer columns built into these Westlake kitchens clog at the defrost drain the same way they do everywhere else, and the fog and marine layer Daly City sits under most of the year keeps humidity high enough that it happens a little more often here. Water backs up behind the evaporator, freezes, then thaws out during the defrost cycle and shows up as a puddle nowhere near the fridge. I clear the drain and check the heater element before I call the job finished.
