Albany is small and dense, and Maytag work here runs through the compact 1920s to 1940s bungalows on the Marin Avenue grid, the ADUs and basement units tucked behind them, and the UC Village family housing along Buchanan Street. Small kitchens and small laundry closets mean compact machines, and a Maytag Bravos or Centennial pair often serves more than one household on the same lot.

The UC Village units turn over often, so Bravos washers there see a rotating cast of tenants running them hard, and the lid switch and gearbox bearing wear on the same schedule they would in any shared laundry. Centennial dryers in the older Marin Avenue bungalows tend to vent through short runs, since the lots are small, but a choked vent still drags the drum-glide and belt down early. On the fridge side it's the MRT and MFI top-freezers, defrost thermostat or evap fan, cheap parts, but on a small lot with an ADU relying on that fridge, a dead one strands two households instead of one. Commercial Hoshizaki and Manitowoc ice machines aren't something I take on during a Maytag visit, that's a different specialty.
