What breaks. What we fix.
Maytag is built on the Whirlpool platform now, but the laundry side carries its own loyalty. Bravos top-loaders and Centennial dryers dominate our Maytag call volume in the Tri-Valley and the East Bay.
Bravos washers fail at the lid switch first and the gearbox bearing second. Lid switch is a 20-minute call. If the lid won’t lock, the wash won’t start, and the customer hears the click without a wash cycle. The switch is on the truck. Single visit, done.
The gearbox-bearing failure is the bigger ticket. The basket wobbles, the spin cycle howls, and the unit walks across the floor on high spin. By the time the bearing screams, the gearbox and the basket spider are both compromised. We quote the full gearbox-and-spider job because doing the bearing alone leads to a callback in six months. Honest conversation about the math against new-unit cost happens before we order parts.
Centennial dryers fail at the drum-glide bearing and the drive belt. Drum drags, motor whines, customer assumes the motor is shot. We replace the glides, the belt, and the idler pulley as a kit because doing one at a time is twice the labor. One visit, two hours.
Top-freezer fridges (MRT, MFI) are the workhorse mainstream platform. Failures cluster at the defrost thermostat and the evap fan motor. Both are cheap parts, both are 30-minute swaps, both are on the truck.
Ranges (MGR gas, MER electric) fail at the surface igniter on the gas side and the bake element on the electric side. Both are first-visit fixes. Electric ranges occasionally need an oven sensor (RTD) swap when the oven runs cold. We read the resistance before condemning the board.
Dishwashers fail at the inlet valve and the door latch switch. Stocked parts. One visit per call.

Maytag questions, answered.
-
My Bravos washer won't start. Lid won't lock. What is it?
Lid switch failure. The lid will not lock, the wash will not start. Switch is on the truck. Single-visit, 20-minute fix. -
My Bravos is wobbling and howling on spin. Is it the bearing?
Yes, and probably the gearbox. By the time the bearing screams, the gearbox and basket spider are both compromised. We quote the full gearbox-and-spider job because doing the bearing alone leads to a callback. Honest math against new-unit cost happens before parts get ordered. -
My Centennial dryer drum drags and the motor whines. Why?
Drum-glide bearings and the drive belt. We replace the glides, belt, and idler pulley as a kit because doing one at a time is twice the labor. One visit, two hours. -
Do you service Maytag top-freezer fridges?
Yes. MRT and MFI fail at the defrost thermostat and the evap fan motor. Both stocked, both 30-minute swaps.
