If the Koolaire is sized right for your volume, repair usually makes sense. Most failures are valves, pumps, sensors and dirty condensers. If you have outgrown it and the bin runs empty every afternoon, an Indigo NXT may be the better spend, and we will say so in writing.

Our Koolaire makes thin cubes that stick together. What causes that?

Thin, fused cubes usually mean the freeze cycle is ending early or the water supply is short. A clogged filter, a weak water pump or a scaled distribution tube can each do it. We check the water side first, then the controls.

Can you give us a cleaning schedule our staff can follow?

Yes. We leave a written schedule taped inside the panel with dates for cleaning, sanitizing and filter changes. Staff can handle simple steps like washing the air filter, and we do the full clean and sanitize on each visit.

Koolaire is Manitowoc's entry-level ice machine line, and it shares a large part of its parts list with the Indigo machines. That matters for a small operation on San Pablo Avenue or Rumrill Boulevard. A Koolaire that stops making ice is usually a repair job rather than a replacement, because its harvest valves, water pumps and controls are common parts we keep in stock.

Our Manitowoc authorized service covers Koolaire too, and our technician for San Pablo works out of Benicia. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and you approve a written quote before anything is replaced. San Pablo is on EBMUD water, soft to moderate, so filters last longer here than on harder supplies, but the machine still needs regular cleaning.

Common repairs we handle.

Koolaire harvest that runs long. When cubes cling to the evaporator, the machine waits and the bin falls behind. We check the harvest valve, the harvest sensor or curtain, and the evaporator surface. A cleaning often gets it harvesting on time again, and if the valve coil has failed we replace it from stock.
Condenser clogged with grease in a small kitchen. In a small kitchen the ice machine may sit near a fryer or a griddle, and grease mixes with dust on the condenser. Head pressure climbs, production falls, and the machine can stop on a high-pressure fault. We clean the coil, check the fan, and tell you if the spot itself is part of the problem.
Compressor that hums and will not start. A compressor that hums and trips on its overload may have failed start components rather than a dead motor. We test the start relay and capacitor, measure the windings, and check voltage under load. Only then do we quote a compressor, and sealed-system work is done under ADRIUM's EPA 608 Universal certification.
