Hercules gets EBMUD water, soft to moderate, which is kind to a Hoshizaki evaporator plate. Scale still forms, just more slowly. That leaves the moving parts as the main wear items, and on a KM cuber the water pump is the one that announces itself.

Around year seven the pump motor's bearings wear. The pump gets noisy at startup, then the machine starts throwing a high-amp code now and then. We replace the pump assembly, not just the motor, because the impeller tends to crack when the bearing fails. Common repairs we handle.

Water pump loud at startup. A growl or rattle when the pump starts is the bearing. We listen, check the amp draw and look at the impeller. The pump is replaced as an assembly so a crack you cannot see does not bring the machine down next month.
Intermittent high-amp code. A code that comes and goes is easy to ignore. On a KM with an aging pump, it is the warning before the pump stops. We measure current on the pump and the other motors to find which one is pulling high. Low supply voltage can raise a motor's current as well, so we check the voltage at the machine while it runs.
Slow harvest from a drifting thermistor. The thermistor that signals harvest drifts with age, and the board waits too long. Ice over-freezes and sheets stick to the plate. We read the thermistor against its resistance table before any board is blamed.
