What breaks. What we fix.

Crathco builds cold and frozen beverage dispensers for convenience stores, cafes, and concession stands. Grindmaster and Welbilt sit behind the brand. We service the Crathco D line, the FROZEN and Mini-Pro units, and the bubbler and spray models. We reproduce the fault on the bench, then provide a written repair estimate and timeline.

The most common call is a magnetic drive coupling that has worn or lost its grip. The auger stops turning, product separates in the bowl, and the unit looks dead even though the compressor still runs. We pull the bowl, check the drive magnet and the coupling, and replace what is worn. Agitator and auger motors fail the same way after years of duty, and we swap those out when the bearings or windings are gone.

Refrigeration faults are the other big bucket. A weak evaporator, a bad cold plate, or a unit that freezes the product solid all point to the sealed system or the controls. We test the refrigeration side, check the cold plate, and trace the fault before quoting. Sealed-system and refrigerant work is licensed under CSLB #1136642, so it is done right and to code, not patched.

Then there are the leaks and the seals. Bowl gaskets, shaft seals, and worn O-rings let product weep down the front or into the base. Left alone they ruin bearings and breed bacteria. We replace the gasket and seal kits and clean up the drive path while we are in there.

Almost always worth repairing

A Crathco dispenser is a workhorse, and the failures above are wear items, not the end of the machine. A coupling, a motor, a seal kit, or a refrigeration repair costs a fraction of a new unit, and the cabinet and compressor usually have plenty of life left. For a commercial operator, the math is simple. Downtime and a replacement bowl cost more than the fix on nearly every one of these.

Bench intake uses a deposit for pickup, diagnosis, and return. It is separate from the repair, and we confirm the applicable amount before pickup. You get a written quote before any work starts. If a unit is genuinely past saving, we tell you straight and you decide.

Coffee-equipment diagnostics can take up to a week and most repairs run 3–4 weeks. That is exactly why we recommend preventive maintenance. Coffee repair parts are covered for 6 months and consumables for 90 days, with pickup across our 56 Bay Area cities plus San Francisco.

This Crathco page covers cold and frozen beverage equipment. For coffee-only service, use our dedicated coffee division, or contact Adrium for Crathco intake.

From a recent job

We diagnosed a no-cooling fault on a Crathco cold beverage dispenser at a Millbrae restaurant and traced it to a failed R290 compressor from a known manufacturer bad-batch, so the unit went back under factory warranty instead of a paid repair. A few photos from that visit:

Twin-tank Crathco cold beverage dispenser in service, running Strawberry and Cucumber Limeade, at a Millbrae restaurant.

Inside the dispenser: the R290 sealed system, with the condenser, fan, and compressor, where the cooling fault was traced.

The Crathco nameplate: cold beverage dispenser, Model SR-25-16-290, R290 refrigerant.

The failed compressor: a GMCC EA59HMB-U on R290 that matched the manufacturer's known bad-batch.
