What breaks. What we fix.

Cooper&Hunter is a budget ductless line, and I treat it that way. It is a value option that does fine work when it is installed and charged correctly. The hardware itself is conventional inverter mini-split design. Nothing exotic, which is part of why it can be a sensible buy.

We put a Cooper&Hunter PEAK heat pump into a Walnut Creek home where the gas furnace had failed. The owner did not want to pour money into the old equipment, so we converted the system to a heat pump. The PEAK series holds capacity down into cold mornings better than the base wall units, and for that house it was the right call on budget and comfort. Set up properly, vacuumed down, charged by weight and verified, it has run quiet and kept up.

Here is the watch-item. Parts availability is the real difference between Cooper&Hunter and the premium ductless lines. With Daikin or Mitsubishi I can usually get a board, sensor, or PCB through factory channels quickly because I am authorized and factory-trained on both. With Cooper&Hunter, a control board or a specific indoor fan motor can mean waiting on a distributor, and that wait shows up as downtime. So I tell people up front that the unit is cheaper to buy, and the tradeoff lives in the parts pipeline if something fails out of warranty.

What we see fail is mostly the usual ductless story, not anything brand-specific. Indoor blower wheels load up with dust and lose airflow. Condensate lines clog and the head spits water. The occasional control board or thermistor goes. Most of it is repairable, and most of it traces back to install quality and maintenance, not bad design.

We install and repair Cooper&Hunter across the Tri-Valley and wider Bay Area. HVAC runs under our HVAC division. Diagnostic is $75 and waived with the repair, quotes are written, and installs carry our 10-year parts and 10-year labor warranty, repairs one year. EPA Section 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642. At estimate time we confirm what rebates are actually paying.
