Can a Dual Boiler be fixed without a new control board?

Most of the time, yes. Heat and steam faults on the Dual Boiler usually come down to an element, a thermostat, a cutout or a sensor, and each is a separate part. We test those first and quote a board only when they all check out.

The steam wand drips after it is turned off. Is that serious?

Not urgent, but worth fixing. A steam valve that no longer seals drips water and bleeds pressure, and the steam boiler works harder to keep up. We replace the valve seal or the valve and check that the wand stays dry when closed.

Rodeo sits on the eastern shore of San Pablo Bay, and many homes in Bayo Vista and Oleum are small to mid-size houses and townhomes built between 1940 and 1969. We pick up Breville machines here and in nearby Crockett and Port Costa, anything from a Bambino to an Oracle Touch, and bring them to our bench for diagnosis.

Water differs across the three. Rodeo and Crockett get EBMUD water, soft to moderate. Port Costa gets treated water from the Contra Costa Water District. So we ask where the machine lives before suggesting a descale interval, and on the bench we go by how much scale is actually in the steam boiler, not by the calendar.

What we repair on the bench.

No steam from an Oracle or Dual Boiler while shots still pull. When the brew side works and the wand gives nothing, the fault sits on the steam side. We clear the wand first, then test the steam solenoid, then the steam boiler's element and thermal cutout, and replace the part that failed.
Wet, weak steam that will not texture milk. Wet steam means the steam boiler is not holding temperature or is filling too high. Scale on the element, a drifting temperature sensor, or a level probe that misreads can each cause it. We check the probe and the temperature, and descale the boiler if it needs it.
Tank reads empty when it is full. The Oracle and the Dual Boiler read the tank level through a float and a sensor. Grounds or scale on the float, or a sensor that has shifted, give a false low-water warning. We clean the float, check the sensor, and run the machine through a full tank.
