Pinole Valley is mostly family houses of three bedrooms and up, and a family's laundry puts a top-loader through far more cycles than a couple's does. On older Amana washers built on the Whirlpool direct-drive design, the wear lands on the parts that carry torque: the motor coupling and the agitator dogs. Newer Amana top-loaders switch between agitate and spin with a shift actuator, and that part fails in its own way.

Much of Pinole's housing dates from the postwar boom of the 1940s through the 1960s, and Old Town is older still. Water and ice systems

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Common repairs we handle.

Motor coupling worn out on a direct-drive Amana. The motor runs and the washer drains, but the agitator will not move or the spin is weak. On direct-drive models the plastic and rubber coupling between the motor and the transmission wears through. We pull the motor, replace the coupling, and check the transmission for play while it is open.
Agitator turning one way only, clothes not rolling over. The top half of a two-piece agitator is driven by small plastic dogs that wear down with use. Clothes stop rolling over and loads come out barely washed. We replace the dogs and the cap, a short and inexpensive repair.
Shift actuator fault on a newer top-loader. When the washer fills and then shows an error, or agitates when it should spin, the shift actuator is a prime suspect. We read the error code, test the actuator's motor and position sensor, and replace it if the readings are off. Then we run agitate, drain and spin to confirm each stage.
