Sub-Zero’s Integrated columns, tall units and drawers log faults as three-part codes with a severity level. Depending on the severity, the code shows up on the display when you open the door, or it’s only logged for the technician.
The list below is from Sub-Zero’s Integrated Series (Tall & Column) Technical Service Manual (7028783, Revision E, November 2016), which covers IC-18FI, IC-24R, IC-24FI, IC-30R, IC-30FI, IC-36R, IC-36FI, IT-30R, IT-30FI, IT-30CI, IT-36R, IT-36CI. The drawer list is from the Integrated Series (Drawers) Technical Service Manual (7030768, Revision B, May 2015), which covers ID-24R, ID-24FI, ID-27R, ID-30RP, ID-30FI, ID-30CI, ID-36RP, ID-36CI. The older Integrated Columns (IC-27R and IC-27F) and the 700 Series use two-digit EC codes; those are on the Sub-Zero error codes hub. Integrated wine (IW) codes are on the wine storage page.
If the unit smells burned, trips its breaker or is leaking water, stop and book service. Don’t open panels, test wiring or touch the refrigerant circuit.
Where you see the code
The service manual says the Info screen (the circle with an i) shows filter life, software versions, error codes and serial numbers (page 2-8). Higher-severity codes also appear when you open the door. Clearing codes is done from diagnostic mode after the repair (page 7-2), so leave that to the technician. The history helps the diagnosis.
Severity: how urgent is it?
From page 7-2 of the manual:
| Severity | What the manual says |
|---|---|
| 1 | Error is logged and only readable through service menu, no indication to user, no chime |
| 2 | Splash screen to user upon door opening, error logged in service and user menu. No chime |
| 3 | Steady on screen to user upon door opening, error logged in service and user menu, No chime |
| 4 | Steady on screen to user upon door opening, error logged in service and user menu, with chime when door open |
| 5 | Steady on screen to user upon door opening, error logged in service and user menu, with chime when door closed |
How to read the code
Three parts, like on Sub-Zero’s BI built-ins. From the code structure table on page 2-17:
- First two digits, the system. 10 thermistor faults, 15 relay faults, 20 defrost heater faults, 30 ice/water/accessory faults, 35 fan faults, 40 runtime faults, 44 glass heater faults, 45 lighting faults, 50 flow meter faults, 60 load/component faults, 90 control faults, 95 diagnostics, 98 power faults.
- Middle character, the zone. 0 misc, 1 zone 1, 2 zone 2, 3 zone 3, 4 defrost system, 5 control system, 6 compressors, 7 ambient, 8 icemaker, 9 dispenser, A air filter, L lighting, U water system, H high voltage system, C condenser, b baffle.
- Last two digits, the failure. For example 00 open, 01 short/closed, 02 unstable, 40 excessive runtime.
A thermistor is a temperature sensor.
Owner steps
These come from Sub-Zero’s Designer Series Use and Care Guide (9043924 Rev. A, 10/2020) troubleshooting section and match the older guides:
- Verify the unit is on and the home circuit breaker is on.
- Clean the condenser behind the kickplate: power off at the control panel, gloves on, soft brush and vacuum along the fins.
- Make sure the door or drawer closes fully and hasn’t been left ajar.
- If the display shows 38° and 0° but the unit isn’t cooling, it may be in showroom mode. Call Sub-Zero Customer Care at 800-222-7820.
- Keep the ventilation openings in the cabinetry clear.
Severity 3 to 5 codes, and any code that keeps coming back, need a technician.

Drawers: what’s different
The drawer manual’s list is the same except: 10 0 00 (drawers), 10 0 01 (drawers), 10 0 02 (drawers) replace 10 C 00, 10 C 01, 10 C 02 for the condenser thermistor. No other code differs in description or severity.
What to send when you book
Photograph the screen, note the severity behavior (on screen, chiming or not), and save the model and serial number. Don’t clear the code.
