An error message on a Franke A300 or A600 is a starting point, not a parts order. The display may be asking for a cleaning tablet cycle, reporting that a mechanism did not reach its position, or warning that a heated or pressurized system is outside its normal range. Those situations look similar on a busy bar because the machine has stopped making a drink. They are not the same repair.
The first useful action is to record the exact wording. Write down the message, any number shown with it, the time, the drink or cycle that was running, and whether the machine had just lost power. Also note whether it cleared once or returns after every drink. The difference between one event and the same alarm repeating 40 times over a week is often more valuable than the label alone.
Sort the message before touching the machine
Franke machines report several kinds of attention through the same display. A maintenance prompt is tied to brew cycles or elapsed use. A recoverable fault may follow a power interruption or a temporary obstruction. A hardware alarm says that a sensor, motor, heater, pump, or control circuit is no longer producing the result the machine expects.

Cleaning and waste-container messages
Milk-system rinses, cleaning-tablet cycles, descaling prompts, a full drip tray, and a full waste container are normal operating reminders. The machine tracks use and asks for attention before residue becomes a larger failure. Empty the containers, run the guided cycle, use the product specified for the machine, and complete the rinse instead of stopping halfway through.
Do not make a cleaning reminder disappear by cycling power. The display can be quiet while milk residue remains in the milk path, coffee oils remain in the brew unit, or a drain passage stays restricted. If the machine completes the program and the message stays away, maintenance was the likely cause. If the prompt returns at once, look for a container sensor, incomplete program, blocked drain, or a deeper system fault.
Grinder alerts on the A300 and A600
A grinder alert can mean the hopper is empty, beans are bridged above the outlet, old oily grounds have packed the burr area, or a sensor did not receive the movement confirmation it expected. A pebble or another foreign object in the hopper is also possible. On the A600, very oily or flavored beans can leave buildup on the burr faces and around the sensor area. That buildup can affect both dosing and the sensor’s ability to see normal movement.
The operator check is limited. Look into the hopper, remove an obvious obstruction without reaching into a moving mechanism, and confirm that beans can fall toward the grinder. If the motor sounds strained, stop pressing the drink button. Repeated stalls load the motor and drive. A blockage that might have been cleared during a proper service visit can become a motor or drive problem when it is forced through several start attempts.
When I diagnose this family of alarm, I inspect the hopper and burr chamber, look for glazed surfaces and compacted coffee, check motor load, and verify the grinder sensor. The message alone cannot distinguish a bean bridge from a failing motor or sensor.
Brew-group alarms
Brew-group messages usually involve travel, position feedback, or a compacted puck. A power interruption can leave the mechanism between positions. Grounds can also pack into the path and prevent the group from completing its cycle. Both the A300 and A600 have front-removable brew groups that operators can take out and rinse as part of the cleaning routine. Check the manual for the exact procedure for your model.
Do not force the drive with a tool or push the group back into place against resistance. Rinse the removable group, clear only material that is plainly accessible, reinstall it correctly, and allow one restart after the power event. If the same brew-group message returns, the technician needs to inspect the drive, seals, position feedback, and grounds path. A recurring position alarm is not fixed by clearing the display.
Temperature, pressure, and milk-system faults
An alert about temperature, boiler heating, or pressure deserves more caution than a tray prompt. The likely area may be an NTC temperature sensor, a heating element, a pump, a pressure switch, a flow meter, or the control circuit. These parts can produce similar customer-facing symptoms. A reset cannot tell them apart.
Keep the machine out of service if it is overheating, leaking, tripping a breaker, or giving off an electrical smell. A machine that makes a drink but reports a repeated pressure or temperature fault is not automatically safe to keep running. Record whether the fault appears during heat-up, during a shot, during steam production, or when the machine is idle.
Milk-system faults deserve their own note. The technician checks the tubing, valve, and cleaning history, not just the visible milk outlet. Inconsistent rinsing allows milk residue to restrict the path and can make the machine report a flow or temperature problem after the system has already been stressed. Complete the guided milk cleaning cycle first. If the message comes back, stop treating it as a reminder.
What a technician checks
I start with the stored alarm sequence and reproduce the symptom without repeatedly stressing the machine. For a grinder fault, that means the hopper, burrs, motor load, and sensor calibration. For a brew-group fault, it means the drive, seals, position sensor, and grounds path. For a temperature fault, I check the NTC sensor, heating element, and control circuit, then verify the flow path. A pressure complaint also requires the pump and related valves to be checked under the correct conditions.
The order matters. Replacing a board because a display says “grinder error” can leave the real obstruction untouched. Replacing a pump because a drink is weak can miss a restricted path or a sensor issue. The exact text, model, and recurrence pattern keep the diagnosis from turning into parts guessing.

A single restart after a power event is reasonable. Repeating resets to keep a recurring alarm hidden is not.
Do not open the boiler or pump circuit, bypass a safety shutdown, force the brew-group drive, or keep running a machine that is overheating or leaking. The risk is not only a larger repair. It is also unreliable drinks during service and a hot or pressurized fault in the workspace.
If the same message returns after cleaning and one restart, preserve the wording and the time pattern. Take the machine out of normal production if its output is unsafe or unreliable. That small record gives the technician a much better starting point than “it showed an error yesterday.”
When the message needs service
Call for a diagnosis when a grinder or brew-group alarm repeats, when a cleaning program cannot finish, when a temperature or pressure message appears, or when a milk fault returns after the correct rinse. The same applies to a message paired with bad shots, water on the counter, overheating, a breaker trip, or an electrical smell.
Franke A300 and A600 components are model-specific, and the service history matters. Bring the exact display wording, the machine model, what staff did before the fault appeared, and whether the message cleared or returned. That information helps separate routine maintenance from a component that needs testing.
