LG ICE MAKER · LOS GATOS

LG ice maker not working in Los Gatos? We fix it.

An LG fridge that has stopped making ice is one of the steadier calls we run, and it is almost always one part, not the whole icemaker. On LG French-door and InstaView units the ice side is a self-contained system: a water valve, a fill tube, the icemaker module, and the filter. When one of those quits the rest keeps working, so the fix is usually a single component swap.

Why this happens

What we look for first.

  • Frozen fill tube at the icemaker. This is the most common ice failure we see on LG French-door units. The fill tube carries water from the valve to the ice mold, and on these fridges it sits in cold air and freezes into a plug. Water can no longer reach the mold, so the icemaker cycles and drops nothing, or drops a few hollow cubes. We thaw the tube, check the tube heater if the model has one, and look at why it froze, usually a slow valve or a fridge running too cold. If the tube keeps icing we address the upstream cause, not only the symptom.
  • Failed water inlet valve. The inlet valve at the back of the fridge is a solenoid that opens to feed water to the icemaker and dispenser. The coil burns open or the valve clogs with mineral scale, and either way no water reaches the mold. The tell is a dry icemaker with a dispenser that also runs weak or dead on water. We check for line pressure into the valve, then meter the solenoid coil and read voltage at the connector during a fill call. If the coil is open or the valve will not pass water with power on it, we replace the valve.
  • Clogged or overdue water filter. LG fridges run the ice and dispenser water through a cartridge filter, and a filter that is months past due chokes flow to the point the icemaker stops filling. People forget these, and a clogged one mimics a dead valve. We pull the filter and test flow with it out: if ice and water come back, the filter was the restriction. We install the correct LG cartridge and confirm full flow. Cheapest fix on the list and worth ruling in first.
  • Icemaker module or ejector motor failure. The icemaker assembly has its own motor, mold, and control that runs the harvest cycle. The motor stalls, the gears strip, or the module control quits, and the unit fills with water but never ejects, or it dumps water and never cycles. You will often find a mold full of ice that just sits there. We run a forced harvest at the module, watch whether the motor turns and the fill valve fires, and replace the assembly if the cycle is dead. On most LG units the module is a straightforward bolt-in swap.
  • Low house water pressure or a kinked supply line. LG icemakers want roughly 20 psi or better to fill correctly, and we confirm the actual spec against the model on site. A half-closed saddle valve, a kinked plastic supply line behind the fridge, or a reverse-osmosis system that cannot keep up will starve the icemaker even when every part is good. The dispenser water comes out slow and the ice is hollow or short. We check static and flowing pressure at the fridge and inspect the supply line end to end. If a home is on RO, we confirm the system has the output to feed an icemaker before condemning fridge parts.
  • Defrost fault starving the ice compartment. On these units the icemaker lives in the fresh-food door or compartment and depends on that section staying cold enough to freeze and harvest. When the defrost system fails and the evaporator frosts over, the compartment warms a few degrees and ice production falls off or stops while the food still seems cool. We check the evaporator coil for frost packing, test the defrost heater and sensor, and look for a tE or related error on the panel. Fixing the defrost side brings the ice back along with proper temperatures.

How we diagnose and fix it

The walk-in workflow.

  1. 01

Confirm the symptom and check the panel for any error code, then verify the icemaker is switched on and the fridge is set cold enough to freeze ice.

  2. 02

Pull and bypass the water filter to rule out a clogged cartridge, and check house water pressure and the supply line behind the fridge for kinks or a half-closed valve.

  3. 03

Run a forced harvest at the icemaker module and watch the sequence: does the motor cycle, does the fill valve fire, does water reach the mold.

  4. 04

Check the fill tube for an ice plug, and meter the water inlet valve solenoid for an open coil and for voltage during a fill call.

  5. 05

If the ice compartment is warm, inspect the evaporator for frost and test the defrost components, then confirm the failed part and quote it in writing before any work starts.

Pricing and warranty

What it costs. What we stand behind.

  • $75

Diagnostic visit. Waived when you book the repair with us.

  • Typical

Most LG ice repairs land in the $150 to $350 range with the part installed. Clearing a frozen fill tube or swapping a clogged water filter is at the low end. A water inlet valve runs in the middle of that band. An icemaker module or ejector assembly replacement is typically $250 to $400 depending on the model. If the no-ice traces back to a defrost fault, that repair runs a bit higher, usually $300 to $550. We diagnose first and quote the exact part and labor in writing before we start.

  • Warranty

You get a parts and labor warranty in writing before we start any work. We cover consumable parts like the water filter for around 90 days, and major components like the water inlet valve, icemaker assembly, and defrost parts for 1 year. The part number, the price, and the labor go on the quote up front, so you know exactly what is covered before we turn a screw. These are not sealed-system repairs, so they carry the standard warranty.

FAQ

LG LG ice maker in Los Gatos questions.

  • My LG icemaker fills with water but the cubes never drop. What is that?
That usually points at the icemaker module itself or a frozen fill tube. If the mold fills and freezes solid but never ejects, the ejector motor or the module control has quit, and we replace the assembly. If the mold is dry or only partly filling, the fill tube has iced into a plug or the inlet valve is weak. We run a forced harvest at the module to watch the cycle and sort which one it is in a few minutes on site.
  • How fast can you get to me from San Ramon?
We are based in San Ramon, so San Ramon, Danville, and Alamo are our closest runs and we usually reach those same day or next day. The rest of the Tri-Valley and the wider Bay Area we route around the day's calls. Phone us at (925) 999-4095 with your model number and the symptom and we will give you a real window, not a vague all-day promise.
  • I replaced the water filter and still no ice. Now what?
Good first step, because a clogged filter is a common cause. If a fresh filter did not bring ice back, the next suspects are a frozen fill tube, a failed water inlet valve, or the icemaker module. Check that house water pressure is decent and the supply line behind the fridge is not kinked. If ice still will not come, those are our parts to test and we sort the exact failure on the diagnostic visit.
  • Is an LG icemaker repair worth it, or should I just buy a countertop machine?
For most of these it is worth fixing. The common failures, a fill tube, a valve, a filter, or the icemaker module, are inexpensive parts relative to losing the built-in ice and water you paid for in the fridge. On most LG units the module is a quick bolt-in job. We give you the repair number in writing first so you can weigh it honestly against any alternative.
