Defrost bimetal gone on a WRS side-by-side. Frost builds up on the freezer's back wall and the refrigerator side slowly warms up behind it. The defrost bimetal is the most common cause on a WRS325 or similar model, with the defrost heater a close second. I test both plus the control board, since replacing only the bimetal when the heater is already weak just guarantees I'm driving back out to a well-and-septic property on the outer roads within a month.
Lid lock trouble on a WTW top load. The lid lock light blinks, the washer won't run, and whatever's inside is stuck there. Nine times out of ten it's the W10404050 lock assembly itself, or a worn strike plate, and the board simply refuses to start a cycle until it sees the lock signal. It's a quick part swap, but I always check the hinge alignment first, because a lid that sags on an older machine burns out a fresh lock in weeks.
Oven temperature sensor drifting. Food comes out underdone at the set temperature, or the oven runs hot and burns the edges. Whirlpool's factory sensor can drift 25 to 50 degrees before it fails completely. I verify against an independent probe, swap the RTD sensor, and recalibrate, which comes up a lot in Portola Valley kitchens where a remodel kept the original wall oven cutout and the appliance inside it is older than the rest of the house.
