Defrost bimetal failing on a WRS side-by-side. Frost builds along the back wall of the freezer while the fridge side slowly climbs in temperature. On a WRS325 or similar, the defrost bimetal is the usual failure, with the heater itself a close second. I test both along with the control board, because swapping only the bimetal when the heater is already marginal just means I'm back out here in a month, and a guest house on a Woodside estate is not a short trip to repeat.
Lid lock failure on a WTW top load. The lid lock light flashes, the machine won't start, and the wash inside is stuck. The W10404050 lid lock assembly wears out mechanically, or the strike plate goes, and Whirlpool's control board simply refuses to run without a confirmed lock signal. It's a fast swap, and I always check hinge alignment too, since a sagging lid on an older guest house washer kills a brand new lock within weeks.
