Daly City sits in the fog belt above San Francisco, and the Westlake district that Henry Doelger built out in the 1950s is full of the same style rowhouse and duplex, laundry closet off the kitchen, one appliance wall per unit. The fog does something specific here. Vent runs in these older units are short but the air stays damp most of the year, so lint clumps instead of blowing clear and the dryer thermal fuse trips more often than it would in a drier city. We also cover Brisbane right next door, same platform, same failures.

- Cabrio gearbox and lid switch. No spin, or the drum just sits there humming. In the Westlake duplexes the washer runs harder because two units share a laundry closet, and the gearbox bearing wears out before the rest of the machine. Same lid switch fix as the Maytag Bravos.
- WED/WGD dryer thermal fuse and vent. The fuse blows and most people just replace it and move on, but the real cause is a duct that never fully dries out in this fog. I pull the vent run first, clear the lint clog, then put in the new fuse so it does not blow again in two weeks.
- WFG surface igniter. Burner clicks and clicks but will not catch, or it lights slow with a pop. Common on the older Serramonte ranges. I keep the igniter stocked so it is a same-visit swap.
