Whirlpool in Albany

Whirlpool in Albany kitchens.

Albany's housing stock is compact, 1920s to 1940s stucco and wood bungalows on small lots along the Marin Avenue grid, plus the UC Village family housing along Buchanan Street and the ADUs and basement units that have gone in behind a lot of the older homes. Whirlpool fills most of these kitchens, and because the spaces are tight, 24 and 30 inch models show up more here than the full-size units we see elsewhere. WRS and WRF refrigerators, Cabrio washers, and WED and WGD dryers make up most of the calls.

UC Village and the ADU units see the heaviest use, turned over between renters and families more often than a single-owner bungalow. Cabrio washers there fail most at the lid switch and the gearbox bearing. Dryers blow a thermal fuse when the vent hasn't been cleared in a while, so we clear the duct before the new fuse goes in. Fridges fail at the icemaker fill valve most often, and a control board sometimes doesn't survive a power outage on top of it.

Water and ice systems

The water inlet valve, a common fridge leak.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

What the work looks like

A dishwasher leaking from the pump and sump.

The base of a Whirlpool-family dishwasher, where the circulation pump, sump, and diverter live. A worn pump seal, a cracked sump, or the diverter lets water past and onto the floor.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Cabrio lid switch and gearbox. Washer won't start, usually a bad lid switch. Grinding on the spin cycle means the gearbox bearing is worn. We test both and replace what's actually gone.
  • WED/WGD thermal fuse with vent clearing. A blown fuse traces back to a clogged vent almost every time, especially on the shorter dryer runs common in these smaller units. We start by clearing the vent run, and only put in the replacement fuse once that's done.
  • WDF/WDT recirc pump. Weak wash or dishes coming out dirty points to the recirc pump motor. We swap it, single visit.
  • WRS/WRF icemaker and drain. No ice or a puddle in the freezer. Icemaker module or a frozen drain line, both stocked on the truck.

FAQ

Whirlpool in Albany questions, answered.

  • How long does it take you to reach Albany?
About 40 to 45 minutes from San Ramon, usually Highway 24 to I-80 or up I-580. We route Albany with our Berkeley and Richmond stops, and a booked window comes with a written arrival time.
  • Do you work on compact 24 and 30 inch Whirlpool units?
Yes, those show up constantly in Albany's smaller kitchens and ADUs. Parts and repair approach are the same as full-size units, just a tighter cabinet to work in.
  • What is the diagnostic fee?
$99, and it's waived if you go ahead with the repair. You'll have the price in writing before any work starts.
