The $75 diagnostic covers the visit and the failed unit, and it is waived if you approve the repair. If you want the healthy units inspected and their condensers cleaned while everything is accessible, we quote that as a line item in writing so you see the cost before saying yes.

Do you handle warranty-expired units, or only new ones?

Age does not scare us off. Most Fremont estate units we see are 8 to 15 years old and long out of factory warranty. Parts for the 2000 and 3000 series are still obtainable, and our repair carries its own one year warranty regardless of the unit's age.

Fremont has some of the most serious home wine storage we service in the East Bay. The Mission San Jose and Vineyards-Avalon hillside homes were built with real wine rooms, and a lot of them run banks of U-Line Wine Captains, sometimes three units side by side in one cabinetry run. When one unit in a bank fails, pulling it means working inches from two healthy units and finished millwork. That is precision work, and it is the part we refuse to rush.

Down the hill it is a different picture: Warm Springs and Ardenwood townhomes with a single U-Line beverage center under the island, and the cafes around the Niles district running undercounter ice machines. We cover all of it from San Ramon, about 30 minutes down 680. Andrew is EPA 608 Universal certified, we quote in writing before work starts, and the $75 diagnostic is waived when you approve the repair.

Every repair carries a one year warranty. If we ever tell you a unit is not worth fixing, you will get that in writing too, with the reason.

Water and ice systems

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

One unit in a multi-unit bank running warm. Three Wine Captains sharing one cabinet run also share the heat each one rejects. The middle unit almost always fails first because it breathes the warmest air. Typical finding is a dust-choked condenser plus a condenser fan with dry bearings. I clean and test all three while the cabinet is open, because sending me back next year for the neighbor unit helps nobody.
Ice maker water inlet valve failing. U-Line undercounter ice makers in Fremont homes commonly stop with either no ice or a slow bin fill. Nine times out of ten it is the water inlet valve, either clogged with sediment on the inlet screen or with a coil that no longer opens fully. I check flow rate and pressure at the valve before condemning it, since a kinked supply line behind the cabinet gives the same symptom.
LED lighting board dead or flickering. The interior LED strips on newer U-Line wine units run off a small board that does not like the heat inside a tight cabinet. Flickering or dead lighting is cosmetic until the same board starts feeding the control side bad voltage. I replace the board and check the harness connectors, which get brittle where they route near the compressor compartment.
